I don't usually plug my shop on my personal blog, but I've been working hard on lots of new designs and thought I'd share a few.

Pardon Me

My blog will be undergoing some changes over the next week or so. Starting today. I have another blog that some of you know about called sarah style. Today I imported all of the posts from that blog (so if you're using a reader you probably were dozens of new posts here). This also means you might see new kinds of posts here (like the ones I did on sarah style). I'm also thinking about switching the url of this blog... we'll see. Just thought I'd let you know what's up. Stay tuned.

The Launch

Well, this is it - the day we've all been waiting for. Or more accurately, the day I've been waiting for! After tons of working, planning, designing and learning, my business is finally online. Sugarhouse Ink is ready for your viewing pleasure!

Working To Work

So, lately I've been getting pretty excited about Spencer's (soon our) condo as a new project. I've scoured craigslist on a daily basis, memorized the Ikea catalog, and become familiar with Target's vast furniture line (who knew, right?). As per usual, I've also found inspiration from sources that are a little bit out of the budget for now (i.e. Pottery Barn) and the blogs and magazines that I try to keep up on regularly like Apartment Therapy and ReadyMade Magazine.

As I see it, our new abode's most important purpose is to feel like home. But then there's also an element of function that somehow needs to permeate what I now dream of as our tranquil and serene escape from the world. With one bedroom, this is somewhat of a challenge. Combining our sanctuary of a bedroom with a workspace, and somehow finding a place to store a bicycle while maintaining it in an easily accessible place (so as not to discourage riding it) with no garage is another challenge. Any ideas about either of these would be much appreciated.

There maybe hope for the workspace in the bedroom idea though. I can't quite remember how the closet situation is configured, but I think that there are two. Which means, that something like this just might work.
Wouldn't that be fab? Just take off the closet doors, hang a curtain and some shelves and voila! This not only saves space, but it puts the workspace out of sight whenever it needs to be. We could even put a filing cabinet on the floor. I guess the only question is, where do we put our clothes?

Open Book

Last year Seth and I threw around ideas of starting a business. Every business needs to be based on a fabulous idea and this one was. Blog books. Blog books - how cool! Yes. We thought so too. So when the digital age goes down, the blog lives on.

Well, it has finally come to fruition. Not our business. Someone else's. It's called Blurb. But it's essentially what we thought of (doh!) and it's beautifully integrated with blogger. So perfect. Look for your own copy of Part of Your History Volume One on blurb.com soon. (yes, you can buy other people's books too - kinda cool, kinda creepy.)

This Could Be A Brand New Start

I know it's been forever since I've blogged and I'm not even on a technology hiatus. I guess I don't really have a good excuse since there's been plenty to blog about. I mean, I even bought an amazing porch swing that has yet to make an appearance here. I feel like a purchase that officially takes you out of the "I can fit my entire life in a Honda Civic and go anywhere" category is worthy of a blog post. But let's face it, I hardly fit into that category before. But I digress.

For Mother's Day the siblings put me in charge of the flowers since I'm the only local to our now Utahan parents. I meant to go to a florist to get a beautiful pre-made arrangement, but instead bought several bouquets and arranged them myself. Maybe I'll quit marketing and take up a new career as a floral artist.
On Friday evening Spencer and I hiked to the Living Room. It's a fairly simple hike to an overlook where furniture has been cleverly constructed out of flagstone. We brought a picnic along, watched the sunset from our "loveseat" and met a laser-chasing dog named Deuce.
Last week we got to see Damien Rice perform at the McKay Events Center in Orem. It was the third time I've seen Mr. Rice perform and this was by far the best. Despite the moderately large venue, he was able to create an intimate concert experience that was heartbreakingly beautiful. Despite his folksy Irish roots, Damien knows how to rock -- I particularly liked the rap solo by his unassuming cellist Vyvienne Long.
Oh, and I can't forget the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point two weeks ago.
Yeah, so things are good.
